‘Memoir of a Murderer’, not to be confused with ‘Memories of Murder’, or ‘Confession of Murder’ for that matter. An alternate title to this film is ‘A Murderer’s Guide to Memorization’, which I must say is a far better title.
‘Memoir of a Murderer” is about a serial killer with memory problems and an overall deteriorating brain. He hasn’t killed anyone in 17 years but when a new string of serial killings pops up in the area, he can’t be sure that it isn’t him acting out again. Meanwhile, his daughter is growing close with someone he suspects may be a serial killer himself.
The concept of memory is well explored. His memory gaps almost play out like ‘Memento’ at times. They serve the narrative well and the film even manages to derive some effective moments of humor as well.
‘Memoir of a Murderer’ is a good thriller that while not matching up to the genre’s best, is well worth watching. Give it a look-see on a rainy night and you won’t be disappointed.
